Crete in October

While I was strolling the streets of Paris at the end of September, an invitation to join a group of journalists for a press trip in Crete organized by the Greek Tourism board in Vienna landed in my inbox. Needless to say, I jumped in joy! I can’t hide my love for Paris, and at the same time, I can’t hide my love for the Greek islands as well…

Crete in October

What I am going to say right now may sound strange but this was an invitation I was expecting! Why? Because for the past 2 years, I had the chance to visit Crete in October and somehow this trip became a habit that I wanted to repeat every October.

Not bad at all, if you think that in many parts of Europe it starts getting quite chilly and you hop on a plane with Aegean airlines, that brings you to a place where the sky is blue, sun shine bright, and you can still wear sandals and summer dresses and go to the beach! Who wouldn’t accept this invitation, right?

Weather in Crete in october

October in Crete offers a delightful blend of lingering warmth and the gentle embrace of autumn. As the island bids farewell to the scorching summer heat, temperatures hover between a comfortable 20°C to 25°C during the day, perfect for exploring its enchanting landscapes and ancient ruins.

Sunshine still graces the island with around 7 hours of golden rays daily, while occasional brief showers bring a refreshing touch to the air, usually towards the month’s end.

The sea remains invitingly warm, inviting visitors to indulge in leisurely swims and water adventures. With lighter winds and fewer crowds than the peak summer months, October presents an ideal opportunity to savor the island’s beauty at a more relaxed pace.

Is October good time for Crete?

October can be a wonderful time to visit Crete. The weather during this month is generally pleasant, with temperatures gradually cooling down from the summer highs but still comfortable for outdoor activities. You can expect mild temperatures ranging from around 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), making it ideal for exploring the island without the intense heat of the summer months.

One of the highlights of visiting Crete in October is experiencing the island during the shoulder season. This means fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing you to enjoy popular attractions, beaches, and restaurants with more space and tranquility. Plus, accommodations and flights may be more affordable during this time.

October is also a great time to explore Crete’s natural beauty. The landscape is still lush and green from the spring rains, and you can witness the vibrant colors of autumn foliage in the inland areas. Hiking trails, such as the Samaria Gorge, are still accessible, offering breathtaking views without the scorching heat of summer.

Moreover, October is an excellent month for foodies visiting Crete. It’s harvest time, and you can indulge in the bounty of fresh, seasonal produce, including olives, grapes, and citrus fruits. Many tavernas and restaurants feature delicious autumn specialties, such as hearty stews and grilled meats, showcasing the island’s culinary delights.

However, it’s essential to keep in mind that October can also bring some variability in weather, including occasional rain showers, especially later in the month. Packing layers and waterproof clothing is advisable to stay prepared for any changes in weather conditions.

During the press trip, we did many great things but I think that the best part was kept for the end: horse riding by the beach (thank you Maria Lavdaki for organising this extra activity for me)! Our press trip ended in the most beautiful way and I was the happiest!

Thanks to the Greek Tourism Board, Aegean Airlines, and Region of Crete for making this happen! Very grateful to be invited to join!

I will tell you a funny story that happened very recently. The other day in Vienna, I went to the cinema. Next to me there was a lady I didn’t know at all..she looked at me and smiled. I looked at her and I smiled back.

After a while, she looked at me again and she smiled. I smiled back. And then, she looked at me and smiled again for the third time but this time she also said: You are wearing a fantastic perfume!

Of course I had to tell her which perfume it was and naturally she noted the name of it down on her mobile phone. I am glad she liked my perfume and I loved her honesty and spontaneity.

I loved the fact that she asked me directly and that because of me, she might have found a new favourite perfume.

Starck Paris

What is a perfume for you? And why do you wear it?

Starck Paris

The other day I received a collection of three Starck Paris fragrances at home: Peau de Soie, Peau de Pierre, and Peau d’Ailleurs. Each Starck Paris fragrance came with a little note with story that had me thinking of its creations and the messages they want to transmit.

Peau de Soie is a paradox where femininity blossoms from a masculine bud. Peau de Pierre is a masculine fragrance which unveils its feminine side.  And Peau d’Ailleurs is an exploration into ourselves.

For the French designer Philippe Starck “to wear a perfume is to create one’s own territory”.

I personally tend to wear a perfume, not only when I go out, but also at home. I am a firm believer that a few drops of a good perfume have the power to make me feel good. That’s the point of wearing a perfume after all, no?

The inspiration behind the photos of this blog post was exactly that positive feeling that a perfume makes me feel. I wanted to transform this positive feeling into images and through the images to be a little part of Philippe Starck’s visionary world.
