The Ultimate 7-Day Sustainable Itinerary

DAY 1 Hamburg, Germany

The Ultimate 7-Day Sustainable Itinerary for Hamburg and Beyond

I began my travel in Germany from the vibrant city of Hamburg. My first stop was the Hamburger Speicherstadt, a true “city of warehouses” connected by charming streets, bridges, and canals. The beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage site left me in awe. Next, I wandered into the enchanting Kontorhausviertel, where the past and present coexist harmoniously. The impressive Chilehaus, an iconic part of this district, left me in awe and I couldn’t help but admire the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural and architectural diversity. The Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel exemplified how a city can embrace its history while embracing a sustainable future. It felt like I was stepping back in time, yet simultaneously, moving towards a greener tomorrow. Hamburg is not only an attractive travel destination but also a shining example of how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into our daily lives.

DAY 2 Archäologisches Grenzkomplex Haithabu and Danewerk

On my second day in Germany I visited the Archäologisches Grenzkomplex Haithabu and Danewerk, a UNESCO heritage site dedicated to the Viking Age’s trade and exchange relations. Throughout my exploration, I immersed myself in the rich Viking culture that once thrived here. I was humbled by the sustainable practices implemented in these historical sites. It was evident that preserving their authenticity while respecting nature was a priority. From the way the sites were maintained to the educational programs promoting cultural awareness, sustainability was at the heart of it all. On my way back to Hamburg by train, I carried with me a deeper appreciation for the beauty of German landscapes and cities. The blend of culture, history, and nature in Hamburg and its surrounding areas makes it an attractive travel destination like no other.

Day 3 Excursion to Bremen

On day 3 in Germany I embarked on an eco-friendly adventure, taking the train from Hamburg to the enchanting city of Bremen – renowned as Germany’s greenest city. My first stop was at the breathtaking Rathaus. Next to it, the statue of Roland stood tall, symbolizing the freedom of the city. Both the Rathaus and the Roland statue have been awarded the UNESCO World Heritage status, a testament to their cultural and historical importance. Next, I found myself wandering through the Schnoor Quarter, Bremen’s oldest and most picturesque area. I also strolled along The Schlachte, a captivating waterfront promenade that brimmed with life. This place was bustling with lively cafes, restaurants, and beer gardens. The city’s commitment to sustainable travel and responsible development was evident in every aspect of my journey in Bremen, from its well-preserved historical landmarks to its integration of nature within the urban environment. I can’t wait to explore more of this country that values culture, diversity, and the preservation of its natural treasures.

DAY 4  DAY TRIP TO WADDEN SEA

Day 4 in Germany was an unforgettable adventure! I hopped on a train towards the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a protected Natural Park in this beautiful country. The train journey was a treat in itself, passing through diverse landscapes, charming villages, and majestic mountains. It made me realize the importance of sustainable travel, appreciating not only nature but also the rich cultural diversity that flourishes in different German cities. Arriving at the Wadden Sea, I was immediately captivated by its vastness and the cool, refreshing wind. The salty air filled my senses, awakening a profound appreciation for this unique ecosystem. The German dedication to preserving the Wadden Sea and its incredible biodiversity was evident in every step of the journey. On my way back to the hotel, I was filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the wonders of the Wadden Sea. It has reinforced my belief in the importance of sustainable travel and cherishing our natural treasures for generations to come.

DAY 5 DAY TRIP TO LÜBECK

The Ultimate 7-Day Sustainable Itinerary for Hamburg and Beyond

On my fifth day in Germany, I went on an amazing trip to Lübeck, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lübeck’s old town was just lovely, with its charming cobbled courtyards filled with beautiful flowers. The place had a sustainable vibe, which I totally loved! When I arrived in Lübeck, I couldn’t miss the Holstentor, a huge brick gate that’s an iconic landmark in Germany. Passing through it felt like stepping back in time. The whole town had an eco-friendly vibe. The buildings were old and charming, but they also had green spaces and seemed eco-conscious. Even the restaurants served delicious food made with locally sourced ingredients, supporting the local farmers and reducing their environmental impact. As I continued my journey through different German cities, I saw how each place had its own sustainability efforts and unique charm. Whether it was the bustling cities or the serene countryside, they all had something special to offer.

A guide to Munich

Munich, the capital and largest city of Bavaria, is characterized by the unique coexistence of strong economic growth and high tech industries on one hand, and traditional alpine small-town atmosphere on the other hand. In a nutshell: Lederhosen and laptops! Dirndls and high heels! And this is unexpectedly fun!

Having already visited Munich for the popular Oktoberfest, I was thrilled to be back for the second time in just one year! I shall admit that I am, once more, amazed by the harmony, that derives from the combination of historic buildings and modern architecture. The past is still present and the future is being born! Once I landed in Munich and dropped off my hand luggage at the hotel room, a program full of interesting activities organised by the  Munich Tourism Office awaited me, while I was greeted by the team from Mucbook and a group of other bloggers who had come to Munich just for the instameet.

The fun started right away as we took the Rikscha and drove to the restaurant Cantina Cantona. Under the mottos “Simply Munich” and “Spring in Munich” we discovered different parts of the city together with the locals. We enjoyed a guided tour at the Munich Kammerspiele theatre, beer tasting at the Jewish Museum, a sweet seduction at Sama-Sama and African Dirndl at NOH NEE.

Where to stay in Munich

Regarding my stay at the HOtello hotel, it was clean, centrally located, with passion for details. Although I am a sucker for 5 star luxury hotels, I appreciated the warmth and coziness that you can find in this small boutique hotel.  It can only be highly recommended from me. That’s why I also took so many photos of the decor and my delicious breakfast at bed…
