Three days in Aix en Provence

Three days in Aix en ProvenceThree days in Aix en Provence

On the 20th of April, I boarded a direct Volotea flight from Vienna to Marseille. Upon arrival, a driver whisked me away from the airport to Aix en Provence, where I was set to enjoy three delightful days basking in the sunshine.

It’s worth noting that the weather took a surprising turn just before my departure, with Vienna experiencing an unexpected snowfall—a stark contrast to the sunny forecast awaiting me in Provence.

Aix en Provence Day 1

With our arrival in Aix en Provence delayed until later in the day, time was of the essence on our first day. While Anastacia headed to a concert at the Jeu de Paume theater, I opted to indulge in one of my favorite activities—exploring on foot. As I wandered through the winding streets, my camera in hand, I couldn’t resist seeking out the city’s most photogenic spots. Among them, Place d’Albertas stood out as a true gem. Later, we reconvened at the bustling Place de Rotonde, a popular meeting point in Aix en Provence, before enjoying a delightful dinner at Le Jardin Mazarin.

Aix en Provence Day 2

The second day began with a visit to the Atelier Cézanne, an essential stop for anyone visiting Aix-en-Provence, especially for those who appreciate art. Exploring more about the painter’s life was a delight, and being in his studio, where he lived, worked, and created his masterpieces, was incredibly inspiring.

Following that, we made our way to Restaurant Le Saint Estève. Later, we were given the choice between visiting Château La Coste or returning to Aix-en-Provence to continue exploring the city center. I opted for the latter, and it turned out to be a great decision! After a leisurely stroll, we wrapped up the day with delicious French crepes topped with butter!

Aix en Provence Day 3

On the third day, our adventures kicked off with a delightful visit to the market. It was there that I found the straw hat you see me sporting in nearly all our photos. I have a little tradition of purchasing a unique accessory from the market every time I’m in France. Last year, it was a straw bag, and this year, it’s this charming hat. (What will it be next year? Stay tuned!)

Following that, we made our way to the Hotel de Gallifet, where we immersed ourselves in the “Les Enfants du Graffiti” exhibition and had the pleasure of meeting the owner of this exquisite space. Adjacent to the hotel was Monsieur Chou shop, where we indulged in delectable small round cakes filled with chocolate, vanilla, and a myriad of other delightful flavors.

In the afternoon, we explored the Caumont Art Center, where we marveled at the “Marilyn Monroe – I Wanna Be Loved By You” photo exhibition. The Art Center was a true gem, enchanting us with its blend of photography, architecture, cozy café, lush garden, and captivating interior design. We found ourselves spending a couple of blissful hours here before heading to Le Môme restaurant for a memorable dinner.

Exploring the Charming Old City

The old city, in general, is compact, vibrant, and incredibly accessible for exploration. It’s brimming with life, and what’s wonderful is that all the hot spots are conveniently clustered together. This was one aspect I particularly adored. Simply pick up a map from the reception of your hotel, and set out to discover all that it has to offer.

Rue Saint-Dominique in Paris

After visiting Paris again and again, one thing I can say with absolute certainty. The 7th district is my favourite. I have stayed in each and every arrondissement in this city and I am glad to be in the position to share my opinion as to which area I liked more and which less.

Rue Saint-Dominique in Paris

Rue Saint-Dominique and the surroundings is the winner of my heart. This street has everything you want: flower shops, bakery shops, the cutest french cafes, bars and restaurants, and the cutest hotels in Paris: the Green Spirit Hotels.

In addition to that, if you walk to the end of Rue Saint-Dominique, you will reach another one of my favourite boulevard, L’avenue de La Bourdonnais, which leads to the Eiffel tour.

Budget friendly hotel recommendation in Rue Saint-Dominique in Paris

The Green Spirit hotels consists of 3 small colourful hotels in the 7th arrondisement: Le Pavillon, Amelie and Malar. We checked them all, except the fourth one which is located in Monmartre. They are not like the usual luxury properties that I often get to feature on The Viennese Girl blog.

BUT they are an affordable solution for those who want to visit Paris, and maybe stay a little bit longer than a weekend, but don’t want to spend a fortune in accomodations…everybody knows how expensive this city is, and after all, you don’t go to Paris to stay in the hotel. You go to Paris to see the city, walk around and explore.

You might also want to save some bucks from accomodation to invest on shopping in the french boutiques or on culinary experiences. At Le Pavillon we had a maisonette with a winding staircase that led from the living room to the bedroom. I recommend that you check out the white maisonette, and if you have children, look for a colourful room. I also recommend that you check the vision of the hotel which I personally found very interesting.

Every night on the way back to the hotel, we had the best view that anyone can have in Paris. Again thanks to the amazing location of the Green Spirit Hotels.

The day I checked in at the Le Pavillon, I left the luggage in my room and went out to take some photos on Rue Saint-Dominique. A while later, it started pouring and I decided to retire to the hotel room to wait for Polina to come and have dinner with me at the Monjul

Paris restaurant tip

Monjul restaurant was on the other side of the city, and since it was raining we decided to take a taxi. Monjul was exactly what we needed for that night, a cozy place and great atmosphere to enjoy dinner with my friend and toast our Parisian adventure.

For all of you who follow along on Instagramyou might already have seen the live stories from that night.

Paris Fashion week

This Paris Fashion week from last March was filled with memories that brought a smile to my face as I am writing this. We met so many people who work in the 7th arrondisement and it felt more like we were home. If we forget that my French cell phone got lost (probably stolen) somewhere in Monmartre, everything else went just fine.
