Franziskanerplatz is one of these places I spotted on the Internet even before I came to Vienna. I was lucky because I used to live very close to this lovely square when I first moved to Vienna. Unfortunately my flat now is not so close to Franziskanerplatz anymore.

Discovering Franziskanerplatz in Vienna – A Hidden Gem
There are plenty of historical places to visit in Vienna, the city of music and coffee – but Franziskanerplatz might not be among the first that spring to mind. The square doesn’t have many grand buildings or landmarks to see, and it’s usually overlooked in favour of more famous attractions such as Stephansdom Cathedral or Schönbrunn Palace. However, this shouldn’t deter you from checking out this lovely part of town and exploring its charms!

The Place to Be on a sunny day: Franziskanerplatz
On a sunny day, there’s no better place to be than Franziskanerplatz. This lovely square is surrounded by beautiful buildings, including the Franciscan Church, and is filled with people enjoying the good weather. The cafes and restaurants lining the square are perfect for grabbing a bite or a drink. If you’re looking for a place to relax and soak up the Viennese sun, Franziskanerplatz is the perfect spot.

Vienna TOP TIP
Franziskanerplatz has a fountain in the middle and resembles to an Italian piazza. When the weather is nice in Vienna, visit the Kleines Café (they serve delicious bread with a choice of toppings) If all the tables are taken, wait for a while. I never visit this place during the winter because the cigarette smoke indoors is quite annoying. However, during the summer Franziskanerplatz is definitely a very wonderful place to spend a few hours. It’s less touristy, central yet quiet.
