How to get from Vienna to Hallstatt
Since then, I have always wanted to get back to Hallstatt, but I couldn’t figure out how. Firstly, there is no direct train connection from Vienna to Hallstatt and secondly, I don’t own a car in Vienna (and don’t think I actually need it at the moment).
One week ago, after I came back from Karpathos, I got to visit Hallstatt with Vienna Sightseeing. Let me tell you a few things about my personal experience and hopefully you will find a few useful tips over here.

If you happened to burn the midnight oil the night before, no worries! Once you hop aboard the coach, you’ll find it’s spacious and comfy enough to catch a few Z’s. The journey from Vienna to our first stop lasts about two and a half hours, give or take depending on traffic. Personally, I opted to stay awake and take in the lush green scenery whizzing by. With the windows framing picturesque landscapes, it was hard not to stay captivated.
Plus, the English-speaking guide accompanying us kept the journey entertaining with fascinating stories along the way. So, whether you choose to nap or soak in the sights, the journey to Hallstatt promises to be a comfortable and enjoyable ride.

This time around, our itinerary expanded beyond the usual guided city walk. We embarked on a serene boat tour across the lake, allowing us to admire Hallstatt’s beauty from a unique perspective. Following the tranquil boat ride, we ascended the mountainside via the funicular, reaching the exhilarating “Skywalk” viewing platform. From this vantage point, Hallstatt unfolded below us in all its splendor, offering a breathtaking panorama that left us in awe.
All these incredible experiences were expertly organized by Vienna Sightseeing, giving us the chance to immerse ourselves fully in the wonders of Hallstatt. A Day Trip to Hallstatt: How to get from Vienna to Hallstatt
As you can tell from the photos, the day I did the tour was a sunny summer day. That made the whole experience a little bit more enjoyable. Highlight of the excursion was the scenery on route. We passed by beautiful lakes and stunning mountain ranges. We encountered lakeside villages and all this was very interesting, from a photography point of view as well.
