The capital of Austria, Vienna is often considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s also home to some of the best coffee in Europe, which shouldn’t be surprising given the city’s rich history with coffee and coffeehouses (Vienna was also home to some of the first ever).

To help you find the perfect cup of coffee while visiting this cultural mecca, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite Viennese coffee shops below!

Café Central

Café Central houses the city’s first café that opened in 1876, which means you can enjoy your coffee surrounded by history!

A true gem that’s been around since the 19th century. Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time, with its grand architecture and ornate ceilings. Oh, and don’t forget to try their famous apple strudel – it’s to die for.

Vienna’s most famous Old Coffeehouses: Demel Cafe

Demel Cafe holds a special place in Vienna’s coffeehouse scene, boasting a legacy that spans over 300 years. Since its inception, it has been revered for serving some of the city’s most exquisite coffees and delectable confections. Stepping into Demel Cafe is like stepping into a living piece of Vienna’s history, where every sip of coffee and bite of pastry carries with it centuries of tradition.

This iconic establishment isn’t just a cafe – it’s a cultural institution, drawing in locals and visitors from around the globe. It’s not uncommon to find Viennese residents catching up with friends or savoring a quiet moment over a cup of Demel’s renowned brew.

And let’s not forget about their pièce de résistance: the legendary Sacher Torte. Demel Cafe’s version of this iconic Viennese dessert is second to none, with its rich layers of chocolate and apricot jam delighting the taste buds of patrons for generations.

Café Prückel stands as another cherished gem among Vienna’s old coffeehouses, adored by locals for its timeless charm and delectable offerings. Here, amidst its classic ambiance and cozy atmosphere, patrons are treated to not only some of the finest cakes and pastries in the city but also a diverse array of traditional Austrian dishes.

From the moment you step through its doors, Café Prückel envelops you in a sense of nostalgia, with its vintage decor and welcoming vibe. It’s the kind of place where locals gather to catch up with friends, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, or simply savor a moment of solitude with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Best time to visit Prague

Prague is undoubtedly all year round a beautiful city. Also, architecture wise, it resembles a lot to Vienna. However, I do believe that Prague is even more beautiful covered in snow. In my humble opinion, the best season to visit Prague is during Christmas time when the city is decorated with Christmas lights and if there is also snow, then you are lucky. Christmas lights and snow make this city look even more magical.
