Starting June 29th, Austrian Airlines launches direct flights from Vienna to Lemnos, making it easier than ever to reach this hidden gem of the Aegean. No stopovers, no long ferry rides — just pack your bags and arrive straight into island serenity.
Other ways to reach Lemnos:
By Plane: Daily domestic flights operate from Athens and Thessaloniki to Lemnos Airport (LXS), with a flight time of around 45–60 minutes.
By Ferry: Ferries depart from Lavrio Port near Athens (about 9 hours), and also connect Lemnos to other North Aegean islands like Lesvos, Chios, and Samothraki.
TOP TIP: If you’re already traveling around northern Greece or the Aegean, the ferry option gives you a scenic and affordable route to the island.

Why You Should Visit Lemnos Island

What I Loved About Lemnos
One of the things I appreciated most about Lemnos is that it’s mostly flat. I get carsick easily, so I was really happy I didn’t need to take any motion sickness pills—no winding roads or steep hills!
The food was another highlight—everywhere we ate, the food was just so good.
And I really loved the area called Romaikos Gialos in Myrina. The mix of charming buildings and the sea was beautiful. If I had more time just for me, I would’ve sat at one of the cafes there to watch the sunset. It’s that kind of place.

The weather in Lemnos is pleasantly warm from May to October, offering a long travel window for different types of travelers.
For swimming and beach lovers, the best months are July and August, when the sea is warm and perfect for long days by the water.
For hiking, sightseeing, and cooler temperatures, plan your trip in May, September, or October. The landscapes are lush, the villages are peaceful, and the sun is still shining — just not as intensely.
We visited in May, and it was absolutely perfect: sunny days, blooming nature, quiet beaches, and ideal conditions for both relaxing and exploring. No crowds, no heatwaves — just pure Lemnian beauty.

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU SPEND IN LEMNOS
Your travel guide to Lemnos Island, Greece
Lemnos is one of the largest islands in the Aegean, so there’s plenty to explore — from remote beaches and ancient ruins to charming villages and scenic landscapes.
Ideally, one week is perfect. It gives you enough time to truly relax, discover different corners of the island, and soak in the slow, authentic rhythm of local life.
That said, if you’re short on time, a 3-day getaway is still worth it. We spent just 3 days in Lemnos and managed to see a lot — though we definitely wished we had a few more days to unwind and explore at a slower pace.
Whether you’re staying for a weekend or a full week, Lemnos will leave you wanting more.

HOW TO GET AROUND LEMNOS ISLAND
To truly explore Lemnos and reach its hidden gems, renting a car is essential. The island is large, and many of the most beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, and traditional villages are spread out and not accessible by public transport.
Car rental is highly recommended — it gives you full freedom to discover the island at your own pace. You can pick one up at the airport, port, or in Myrina.
If you’re traveling from mainland Greece, bringing your own car via ferry is also a great option.
Taxis are available, but relying on them exclusively can get expensive and limit your flexibility.
While there is some public transportation, routes are limited and infrequent — similar to most Greek islands.
Tip: For a more adventurous (and budget-friendly) option in summer, renting a scooter can also be a fun way to get around.
