How to get to Kimolos

Getting to Kimolos is part of the adventure and trust me, it’s easier than you might think. I found that the most common route is to catch a ferry from Piraeus, Athens’ main port, which takes you straight to the heart of Kimolos. The journey offers a scenic glimpse into the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, setting the stage for your tranquil escape. If you’re coming from another island, there are convenient connections from popular spots like Milos, which is just a short hop away. Stepping off the ferry, you’re immediately enveloped in the island’s welcoming embrace, ready to start your unforgettable journey.

What to eat in Kimolos

Let me tell you, the food in Kimolos is something else. I couldn’t get enough of the local dishes. Every meal felt like I was dining with the locals, in their homes, sharing stories over plates of incredible flavors. The cheese pies here? Absolutely divine. They have this crispy crust that just melts in your mouth, with a rich, savory filling that’s just out of this world. And don’t even get me started on the souvlaki. It’s grilled to perfection, with just the right amount of spices. Eating in Kimolos isn’t just about filling your stomach, it’s about feeding your soul with every bite. It’s the kind of experience that makes you want to linger at the table, long after the plates have been cleared.

Kimolos island Travel Guide: Embracing the Kimolos Lifestyle

Life on Kimolos has this magical way of slowing you down in the best possible way. Imagine sipping your morning coffee as the sun warms your face, without a single rush to be anywhere. The streets of Chorio invite leisurely walks where every hello is met with a genuine smile. Here, it’s all about soaking in the moment, whether that’s marveling at a stunning sunset painting the sky in hues of orange and pink or finding joy in the laughter echoing from the tavernas. The locals have a knack for making you feel like you’ve been part of their community for years, not just a visitor. It’s in these moments, surrounded by the island’s serenity and warmth, that Kimolos really begins to feel like home.

Where to stay in Kimolos

Choosing where to stay in Kimolos was a sweet dilemma, thanks to the cozy array of options. I found myself drawn to the charming guesthouses sprinkled throughout the island, each offering a homey feel that’s hard to beat. These places are run by locals who treat you like family, making your stay incredibly special. For a more secluded experience, I discovered a few boutique hotels tucked away, providing peace and stunning views. Whether you prefer to be in the heart of the village, close to the bustling cafes and shops, or nestled on a hillside with panoramic sea views, Kimolos caters to every preference. Staying here feels like being in a world of your own, wrapped in the island’s natural beauty and tranquility.

Shopping in Kimolos island

There are many lovely stores with super cute things to buy. One that caught my attention was Arzantiera. Easy to find it as it’s located in the main street of the little town.

Kimolos island Travel Guide: Things to do in Kimolos

One of the first things I did in Kimolos was to explore its stunning beaches, each with its own unique charm. Psathi, the main port, has a laid-back vibe perfect for sipping on a cold drink while watching boats come and go. For a more secluded spot, I trekked to Mavrospilia, a beach that rewarded me with its tranquil beauty and crystal-clear waters. Adventure seekers must visit the Skiadi rock, an impressive mushroom-shaped formation that’s a marvel of nature. I also took a pottery class in Chorio, learning the art from locals and creating my own little souvenir. It was these simple, immersive activities that truly made me feel the pulse of Kimolos and left me with unforgettable memories.

How long should you spend in Kimolos

Deciding how long to spend in Kimolos is like asking how long you should let yourself fall in love with a place. In my experience, a week is just enough to scratch the surface, to dip your toes into the island’s laid-back lifestyle, explore its natural beauty, and indulge in its culinary delights. However, if you’re really looking to disconnect and soak in everything Kimolos has to offer at a leisurely pace, I’d suggest aiming for two weeks. This gives you ample time to explore without rush, maybe even find a favorite spot or two that you’ll yearn to return to before you’ve even left.

Best time to visit Kimolos

Figuring out the best time to visit Kimolos really depends on what you’re after. If you love basking in the sun and enjoy warm sea waters, summer (June to August) is your go-to, but it’s also when the island is most lively. For me, the sweet spot is either May or September when the weather is just right – warm, but not too hot, and the island feels more serene. You get to enjoy Kimolos with fewer crowds, making those hidden beaches and quaint cafes all the more magical. It’s like the island breathes more freely, and so will you.

My personal experience in Kimolos island

On my journey with the Kimolos island Travel Guide, I was enchanted by the island’s hidden treasures. Kimolos whispered its secrets through the untouched landscapes and the tranquil beaches where the only footprints were mine. Wandering through ancient ruins felt like stepping back in time, and the coastal trails offered breathtaking views that photos can’t do justice. Each corner turned revealed another surprise, whether it was a secluded cove perfect for an afternoon swim or a quaint village café where locals welcomed me with open arms. Kimolos isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience that fills your soul with stories and memories.

Kimolos island Travel Guide: Best beaches in Kimolos

Prassa, Mavrospilia, Kalamitsi beach, Agios Georgios, Bonatsa

One thing that I’d like to highlight is that there are beaches in Kimolos (and some spots in the main town) where you can borrow books in many different languages. Brilliant idea, right? I haven’t seen something like this on another Greek island! They may begin to adopt this wonderful idea as well!
