Sunset in Chania

Sunset in Chania

The other day while I was taking photos during sunset time in Chania. A guy approached me to show me the drone video he was filming. We sat down on the bench and he told me he is a Chania based photographer. I asked him whether he would like to give me this video to post it on my Instagram and on THE VIENNESE GIRL blog, and he accepted. I am completely in love with drone videos. And how lovely it is to go to a place where you know no one (or maybe just a few) and meet people who share the same passion! To be honest, I wished for this to happened and it did!

Chania’s Sunsets: A Photographic Journey

With its unique location, Chania is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. Sitting along the Aegean Sea, Chania’s Venetian buildings and its harbour provide breathtaking views that are only made better by the glorious sunsets that take place there every evening as the sun dips down into the horizon. The city has numerous marinas where you can enjoy spectacular views of the sunset and will make you feel like you’re in an Instagram photo shoot.

Best time of day to shoot a sunset

Early morning, late afternoon, or dusk. These are the times when the sun is at its lowest in the sky, creating long shadows and interesting colors. Have your camera in Manual mode so that you can control shutter speed and aperture settings.

Spring 2021

What a blessing to be spending Spring 2021 in this beautiful little town, Chania in Crete island! I bought this bouquet of flowers from the local market which takes place every Saturday here. There is only one person who sells flowers in the market. All the other sellers offer fruits and vegetables. Seems like buying flowers is not a habit for Greek people, as it is for the Parisian. So I bought them in a quite reasonable price. 9 bouquets for 15 euro! Well, if they are so affordable, I can buy them every week! I took some pictures of them, and then I put them in the vase. They will definitely last for one week!

La Canée

La Canée

There is a story behind every photo of mine.

When we took this photo, right behind me, there was a guy who was speaking in French on the phone. It was just him and us there, no one else. We actually stopped at this location because I found the light on the sea fascinating. I was curious to see what kind of photos this light could give us.

So we took a bunch of photos and filmed a few videos. We also hoped that we didn’t bother the Frenchman with our little photo shooting….He was laying on a beach sun bed and he was enjoying the sunshine.

He is the reason why I give the title ‘La Canée’  to this blog post, because La Canée means Chania in French. Without him knowing this, I dedicate this blog post to him. Most probably he might never get to know this…

Chania Old Town

Chania Old Town

The pandemic had me reconsidering the idea of living in a big city. Living in a big capital city nowadays, what for? There is nothing happening anyway, and no one is meeting no one. So much loneliness and isolation within the four walls of an apartment in a big city.

On the 1st of February I booked a one way ticket to Chania Chania Old Town, Crete. I wanted to leave the return open. I thought, I should stay in Chania Old Town for as long as I can. My flight was scheduled for the 25th of February. I had to wait 25 days till the day I could escape from the city life that is no longer beneficial…

Do you also feel like the pandemic has change the way we travel? Either we don’t travel at all, because traveling has become so complicated these days, or we travel and we stay long at the chosen destination. And I begin to like traveling more that way…
