Visit Eugendorf

I spent a wonderful long weekend in Eugendorf! Have you ever heard/been to this small town that is located right next to Salzburg?

How come and what is so great about Eugendorf, you may ask…

Well, staying in Eugendorf means that you can be both incredibly fast in the city of Salzburg and in the nature. Very practical if you are planning a small city trip, but you would also like to spend time in the mountains or in one of the many beautiful lakes.

I didn’t know about it until an invitation from Eugendorf Tourism Board to explore this town and photograph it, landed in my inbox! I got very curious about this opportunity, so without giving it a lot of thought, I accepted!

Karin from the Eugendorf Tourism Board, aside from welcoming me with a yummy handmade chocolate (she loves sweets!), she also created an exciting programme full of interesting things to do for me! I had a lot to look forward to!

First things first: Bike tour around Wallersee

We rode 18 kilometres around the picturesque Wallersee lake, through meadows, forests and the Wenger Moor, a nature reserve for rare animals and plants. The lake is perfect for sailing, paddle boarding and all sorts of boating, as well as, of course, swimming. Tried and true!

Our e-bikes were borrowed by Holznerwirt.

We ended the day with a delicious dinner at Gasthaus zur Strass!

The next day: A morning visit in Salzburg Old Town

Get the bus from Eugendorf to Salzburg. Not only is the bus ride quick, it also eliminates the stress of looking for a parking space. Tested and trusted!

– First stop of our route were the Mirabell Gardens at Mirabell Palace.

– Then we walked up to the Kapuzinerberg for a superb view over the old town, the fortress, the mountains, the river and for many instagrammable pictures!

– We stepped down from Kapuzinerberg, passed the Imbergkirche and walked down to Steingasse. We crossed the Staatsbrücke and ended up to Getreidegasse for a little shopping and ice cream!

The perfect afternoon: Stand up paddling at Wallersee

Stand up paddling, also known as SUP! Many thanks to Stefan from Glory Boards for providing me with the SUP gear and teaching me the basic technique!

It was the first time in my life I did Stand up paddling and hope to have the chance to do it soon again. I found peace while floating on a paddle board, plus it felt like a good full-body workout! And if you are curious to know whether I fell down in the water, hehe, no I didn’t!

The day ended with a delicious meal at Gastagwirt.

How to spend a wonderful Sunday: WolfgangseeSchifffahrt and SchafbergBahn

  • Drive to Sankt Gilgen and take the boat WolfgangseeSchifffahrt to Sankt Wolfgang.
  • From Sankt Wolfgang take the nostalgic SchafbergBahn up to the middle station or to the peak of the Schafberg mountain. Depends on whether you’d like to hike or not.
  • From above you have a wonderful view over many different lakes (Mondsee, Attersee, Fuschlsee) in the Salzkammergut (the name of the region between SalzburgerLand and Upper Austria).
  • End the day with a wonderful meal in the Hotel Restaurant AM HOCHFUCHS.

Before I press the “Publish” button for this blog post, I’d like to say Thank You to Holznerwirt for a wonderful stay! I loved having breakfast and lunch in the garden, under the huge trees that provided the right amount of shade for a pleasant meal!

If only every weekend could be like this one … Unfortunately that’s not the case … But I am grateful for this travel opportunity to see more of Austria and I wish for many more to come!

Weekend at Schloss Leopoldskron

Weekend at Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg

This was my third visit at Schloss Leopoldskron. What was initially supposed to be a lonely weekend, a weekend in which I would dive deep into my inner-mind, it turned out to be something else! I was offered a job at the Schloss! An exciting one! One that changes my life and opens a whole new world for me! A world to discover and to cherish!

Why does fate keeps bringing me back to that place again and again?

I feel like there is a special connection between the Schloss and I, a connection that I cannot explain with words! Hopefully one day I will be able to look back, knowing the reason why all this happened.

Schloss Leopoldskron – where to stay in Salzburg

There are three films that I grew up with and marked my childhood in a very significant way: the french film “La Boum”, the American musical “Annie” and “The sound of music”.

The first weekend of April I had the great opportunity to stay and take photos in the premises of Schloss Leopoldskron where a few scenes of “The sound of music” were filmed.

Who would have ever thought that I would have that kind of opportunity? I was thrilled to be in the location where scenes of the musical were filmed and see the garden, the lake and the mountains with my own eyes.

It was also very exciting to see the place where a CHANEL fashion show was held on December 2014. CHANEL is known to always select only the best venues for their shows. Plus, we had the chance to take photos in the suite where Karl Lagerfeld stayed during the show.

I still remember the moment I stepped into the Max Reinhardt Suite and how it made me feel. The windows were open, the sunlight was coming in, the classical music was playing in the radio, a breathtaking view to the lake and mountains in front of me, and some kind of magic spread in the air.

The weekend we spent at Schloss Leopoldskron, we were so lucky with the weather. These were the first days, after a very long time, that I could finally wear a summer dress without coat and tights. Hard to believe it while we were there, but Salzburg treated us to its best way.

We stayed at the Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron the whole day, and only went out for dinner. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but you can find one right at the opposite side of the lake, a few minutes away on foot. The hotel offers breakfast though, served in the elegant halls of the palace.

To be honest, there was not really a need to go out. I could easily spend hours taking photos of the palace or sunbathing in the garden and looking at the lake and mountains without thinking absolutely anything. The swing that was hanging from a big tree in front of the palace and the bicycles that the hotel offers for a ride were an extra highlight of our stay at the Schloss Leopoldskron.

I recommend you to check out Hotel Schloss Leopolodskron for many reasons. Not only for its historical background. It’s a great option for those who are seeking for an accommodation in Salzburg and for those who are looking for venues to host a wedding or events. I would personally love to come back.

Last weekend I had the chance to visit one more part of Austria: the region Hochkönig. I am not a country, mountain type of girl but traveling means being open to various destinations, discovering places, diving into new cultures and venturing out of the city.

Under that adventurous state of mind, after the Uni lesson on Friday, I hopped on the train from Vienna to Salzburg. Then I had to change and take one more train to Bischofshofen (it doesn’t really matter that I still don’t know how to pronounce this word, right?). I arrived just on time for dinner, while everybody else caught an earlier train and was already there…

That weekend I felt like that little girl called Laura in the American TV series “Little House on the Prairie” that I was watching maniacally when I was a little child. I spent 2 nights on those wooden houses that are pictured above and every morning, on my way to breakfast, I was caressing horses, pigs, cats, dogs and sheep. I guess, this is how life in the Austrian countryside should be: peaceful and surrounded by big mountains.

The biggest challenge of the weekend: to go skiing for the very first time in my life. Don’t rush to judge me; I grew up by the sea…it wasn’t very easy but I had the best ski instructor (so, Alex if you are reading this thank you very much) who taught me the technique and encouraged me to ski alone.

For all the nature, mountains, ski and hiking lovers out there, the region Hochkönig has hands down a lot to offer and if you go to Ski Amade at Hochkönig, say “Hi” to Alex from The Viennese Girl…♥
