Blue Danube

The blue Danube (which is actually not that blue) is an ideal green oasis for those who want to escape the city. Take the metro line U1 and get off either at Alte Donau metro station or at Donauinsel.

What can you do there? Invite your friends and host a barbecue (but remember to reserve a place in advance), have a dinner at the restaurants (I like this one for the atmosphere) and cafes directly on the waterfront, do some water sport or go swimming or jogging, rent a pedal or an electric boat for a super romantic ride on the water or just sit on a bench, relax and gaze at the sunset.
I shouldn’t forget to mention the Donauinselfest, which is an open-air free music festival that takes place every summer and lasts for three days.

On the photos above, I gladly share some snippets of my last visit to the blue Danube.

The heart of the city beats in MQ (MuseumsQuartier) which makes this place the hot meeting point of Vienna. There is so much happening during the whole year but I like it most in the summer months. Located here are several exhibition halls, galleries, artist studios, the MUMOK, and the Leopold Museum. But if you are not a museum person, there are restaurants, open air cafes and bars and just in case everything is full and you don’t find a place to sit (which is often common when the weather is warm), take your beer and lie on a “plastic couch” or sit on one of the benches. So many options are all gathered in one place. The city is unbeatable in the summertime and MQ is one of my favorites spots so far.. I am used to spending plenty of time here enjoying the sun and reading a book.♥

Coffee And Other Stories

Clever decoration full of inspiration, small yet sophisticated. These words describe my new discovery. A piece of Hungarian culture in the center of Vienna.

I had a small talk with Peter who served me my breakfast; he told me that they bring fresh products every day from Budapest. He asked me if I want to drink a cup of coffee and I told him that I never drink coffee. He looked at me weird and I laughed. I am not weird! I am just a special edition!

If you visit Budapest Bistro, don’t forget to check their bathroom, a quote hanging on the wall is waiting for you: “People who love to eat are always the best people.” ― Julia Child

I enjoyed the breakfast on a vintage Sewing Machine Table (see photos below) listening to music from the Budapest Bar.

The weather is getting warm, the temperature sometimes reaches the 20 degrees and Kurt is open again for the summer season. This is the place where I usually go after shopping. Sometimes alone, sometimes not alone. Not only their frozen yogurt, but I also greatly enjoy the location of  Kurt in the Schultergasse 2. It is a hidden gem in my opinion, because it is situated in a narrow picturesque street in the center which tourists hardly discover.

Now the good news:

1. Every time you buy one frozen yogurt, you get a sticker. If you get 10 stickers, you get one frozen yogurt for free. Until now I have had many frozen yogurt gratis!

2. If you are student and live in Vienna, you can get a cup of frozen yogurt for free! How? Check this website. The offer is valid until 31.08.2014…

Are you still at home in front of the computer? Invite your friends, go and get it!! ♥

What to do on a rainy day?

There is something strange happening in this city. During the week days, the weather was beautiful. It was sunny and if you could find the time to lie down outside, you could enjoy the sun, get warm and your skin could finally produce a lot of vitamin D. The strange thing is that when the weekend came, I don’t understand why and how, the weather changed and started to rain. Why, If only I knew but the question is: what to do on a rainy day? A strawberry cake with a friend in a lovely Cafe is always a nice thing to do on a rainy day.

Meeting friends at Cupcakes Wien, hot chocolate in Cafe Sperl, macaroons in the centre, snow in Schönbrunn Palace, buying candies and flowers for no special reason, buying new pair of summer shoes, a floral bag from Accessorize, making fine jewellery with Daniel, a beautiful moments puzzle of what I am going through in Vienna through my Instagram photos. It is time to say goodbye to winter and welcome Spring. At last!!!

Dear Prague

Dear Prague

Dear Prague

Prague is only a 4 hour bus drive from Vienna.

Charles Bridge, astronomical clocks, illuminated castles, Czech marionettes, and black theatre were enough reasons to jump on the bus and finally visit this fairytale city.

8 things I enjoyed in Prague:

1.    Walking around the historic centre.

2.    Having fun with street artists and musicians.

3.    Renting a pedal boat in the Vltava River.

4.    Picnicking in the park Riegrovy Sady while enjoying the view over the city.

5. Trdelník, the most common pastry to find on Prague’s streets. I like it with Nutella and strawberries!

6. Hot chocolate drink at Choco cafe.

7.    My hotel Rezidence Dlouhá 17 in the Old Town pedestrian zone.

8. My favourite cafe Černá Madona

What would Sacher Torte be like without Vienna and what would Vienna be like without Sacher Torte?
Some things are so connected to each other, that you cannot even imagine them apart.
You can find Sacher Torte in other countries but they are done exquisitely in the country they originated from.

Today we said “Let’s pretend that we are tourists” and jumped into the cafe of the Hotel Sacher. When the sky turns grey, a good friend and that famous piece of chocolate cake with whipped cream next to it is all I need to feel happy.

Freiraum

Although we are in the middle of the exams period, I couldn’t refuse the invitation of a good friend for a tasteful omelette at Freiraum. How could I refuse when It only takes me five minutes on foot to reach Freiraum and omelette tastes so good at this bar restaurant in Vienna. I always choose the area for non smokers and enjoy the modern and stylish interior and the variety of the dishes. Freiraum is not my favourite restaurant in Vienna but it is a must to visit and whatever you order, be sure that it will taste delicious. ♥
