When I got the invitation to visit Bad Gastein, I somehow felt like that it was going to be an exciting weekend, and although I had to study for the upcoming exams, I bought a train ticket, packed my luggage with warm clothes and left for the mountains without giving it a second thought. You have probably seen it on my Instagram that I have been to Bad Gastein but on The Viennese Girl blog I publish photos that you cannot find on Instagram.
That weekend in the Alps was extraordinary and magical. As you can tell from the photos, everything was covered by snow and although I was freezing, I was happy to be there, taking pictures of that dreamy landscape! Together with a group of like minded people we roamed around Bad Gastein, took photos, had breakfast at Haus Hirt, dinner at Regina Hotel, took the one-person aerial lift to reach the Bellevue Alm restaurant, rode horse sleigh, and visited the cutest hotel in the world Hansi Hansi. Those were my favourite moments from that weekend in the Alps.
During my return trip to Vienna I was thinking that Bad Gastein must be beautiful throughout the whole year. All green during spring and summer and all white during winter. I was also thinking of that room in the corner, where I spent one night, that had view of the snow covered mountains and the valley….that loft room in “Tessa”…♥
Last weekend I had the chance to visit one more part of Austria: the region Hochkönig. I am not a country, mountain type of girl but traveling means being open to various destinations, discovering places, diving into new cultures and venturing out of the city.
Under that adventurous state of mind, after the Uni lesson on Friday, I hopped on the train from Vienna to Salzburg. Then I had to change and take one more train to Bischofshofen (it doesn’t really matter that I still don’t know how to pronounce this word, right?). I arrived just on time for dinner, while everybody else caught an earlier train and was already there…
That weekend I felt like that little girl called Laura in the American TV series “Little House on the Prairie” that I was watching maniacally when I was a little child. I spent 2 nights on those wooden houses that are pictured above and every morning, on my way to breakfast, I was caressing horses, pigs, cats, dogs and sheep. I guess, this is how life in the Austrian countryside should be: peaceful and surrounded by big mountains.
The biggest challenge of the weekend: to go skiing for the very first time in my life. Don’t rush to judge me; I grew up by the sea…it wasn’t very easy but I had the best ski instructor (so, Alex if you are reading this thank you very much) who taught me the technique and encouraged me to ski alone.
For all the nature, mountains, ski and hiking lovers out there, the region Hochkönig has hands down a lot to offer and if you go to Ski Amade at Hochkönig, say “Hi” to Alex from The Viennese Girl…♥
Can you imagine yourself relaxing in an outdoor swimming pool looking at the Alps covered in snow? This is what I did in the Tauern Spa and it lasted one whole day! I was going from the sauna area to the indoor swimming pool and from the indoor swimming pool to the outdoor swimming pool! In other words, it was like heaven on earth, from which you don’t want to escape.
“But how? It is zero degrees outside!” he said.
“So what? All I have to do is relax, enjoy and forget the routine of everyday life.” I replied!
Oh, God of the Water World and sauna, are you listening to me? If only every Sunday could be like that….
