Back to Blue Sand

It was 2018 when we visited Blue Sand boutique Hotel and Suites in Folegandros for the first time. You can see my blog post from that first visit here. Two years passed by. We felt an urge to go back, so this September we did.

Back to Blue Sand

Blue Sand boutique Hotel and Suites never stop to surprise us and never fail to meet our greatest expectations! Although it was our second visit, there were new things to explore and new memories to be made. For instance, one day during our stay, the team of the hotel organized a private boat tour for us. We swam in crystal clear waters and explored countless secret coves and beaches that were only accessible by boat. The yacht can be privately chartered for a day or half day, so consider this activity if you plan to visit Folegandros island.

One night we stayed at the luxury Bohemian villa of Blue Sand. It is called Makarias villa and it is located in the more quiet area of Ano Meria. This villa is perfect for those who would like some more privacy when staying in Folegandros, combined with great rustic Folegandros design and beautiful views.

where to stay in Folegandros island

Despite the global pandemic that has affected the tourism industry severely, and despite the fact that it was September (low season for Greek summer), Blue Sand was fully booked, which is a proof of how amazing this place is and what good work Katerina and her team do at Blue Sand.

How to get to Folegandros island from Vienna

The easiest and fastest way is to take a direct flight from Vienna to Santorini (check Wizzair flights) and then take the ferry from Santorini to Folegandros. The trip lasts only 40 minutes. Book your ferry tickets online in advance with Ferries in Greece.

Crossroads Inn

Crossroads Inn

Our holiday took a pleasanlty unexpected turn last July, when my travel buddy and I have been invited to spend a few wonderful days in one of the Traditional Lodgings of Crossroads Inn.

Crossroads Inn Tinos island Greece Cyclades

Tinos Island has 48 villages and one of them is Tripotamos. The countryside boutique hotel we stayed at, Crossroads Inn, is located within the traditional village of Tripotamos. A village filled with arches, arcades, steps, cobbled alleys and both traditional and modern houses.

Sophia Passa, the daughter of the owner Mrs. Urania Diamantopoulou, welcomed and led us to our new home. Firstly, she explained us all the health protocols and important measurements that she integrated and apply with great respect & responsibility against COVID-19. We immediately felt calm, cherished and safe. Later on, she gave us her best concierge tips for an amazing stay on Tinos, one of the most deliciously unspoiled islands in the Cyclades.

We spent 4 unforgettable days at this family-run inn. We rented a car to explore the island. During the day we explored the villages, the beaches, and the restaurants that Sophia had recommended to us and every evening we were driving back home to enjoy the panoramic views of the Aegean Sea from our open-air Cycladic veranda.

I can highly recommend Crossroads Inn to those who would like to experience the charm of living the local life in a Cycladic village in the heartland of Tinos.

Infinity view Tinos island

The Viennese Girl photography blog travel lifestyle

I spent 3 weeks in July on the Greek islands. This is my first blog post from this adventure. I didn’t have the time to post anything before. August was very busy. I went to Hungary and then to France, and at the same time I was working on 2 extra projects.

In July I visited 3 Greek islands: Crete, Hydra and Tinos island. Infinity view hotel in Tinos island was the last hotel I visited during this Greek island hopping. Infinity view is a brand new all-Suite Luxury Hotel and I was lucky and privileged to spend a few relaxing days in July here. You can’t imagine how much I enjoyed everything: the beach in front of the hotel, breakfast, my balcony, the infinity sea views from everywhere you look, the pool. The hotel is also very close to Tinos Town, so you can easily reach the Town on foot. Everything about the Infinity view hotel was truly exceptional and so tremendously relaxing! I hope you have the chance to visit it one day too.

Enjoy the photos. As always, I let them do the talking!

Kayumanis private villa and spa

Kayumanis private villa and spa

Kayumanis private villa and Spa is an Indonesian hospitality brand. The resorts of the brand are located in some of the best locations in the mystical island of Bali: Nusa Dua, Ubud, Jimbaran and Sanur. I was lucky for having the opportunity to experience the world of Kayumanis resorts and Spa in Nusa Dua and in Sanur. In this blog post on TVG, I’d like to share with you a few lovely memories I made at the resorts and the photos I took during my stay.

What I loved at Kayumanis Sanur Private Villa & Spa

The well-appointed outdoor living area in my villa left me in awe! I was moved by the decoration. It made me think how much I’d love to have a home that looks like this! Their interior design is something I don’t think I will ever forget easily.

The Kayumanis Sanur villas are named after the keyed instrument that plays the resonant melodies in a traditional orchestra.

One evening the hotel arranged a transfer for me to their seaside restaurant, where I enjoyed dinner and the gentle breeze.

What I loved at Kayumanis Nusa Dua:

Riding a bike along the beach.

Laying on the bed, listening to the rain and thunderstorms during the night!

The bedroom was one step away from the pool. Imagine waking up in bed and directly being able to jump into your private pool.

The sunrise breakfast at the private beach of the hotel was a great experience.

Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa

Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa

From the moment you arrive at Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa in Bali, you realise that this is going to be a very special life experience. We felt it right at the moment we arrived, while our driver was approaching the entrance of the hotel, that we were entering a luxurious ancient Balinese house. Upon arrival, the hotel staff was waiting for us at the entrace and welcomed us with flower necklaces that were made specially for us and a smile on their faces.

Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa

We had arrived at Bali a few days before we visit Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa. The first days in Bali were very busy for us. In our effort to see and do most of the things we had on our “Must visit/do list”, Katharina and I ended up literally running from one place to another. From Canggu to Seminyak, from Seminyak to Nusa Penida.

And then back to Sanur where the driver of Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa picked us up to bring us to the retreat. Now I look back and remember clearly that during these first days in Bali, Katharina and I were aching for a place like Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa, where we would finally be able to detoxify the body and relax the mind.

Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa

I have stayed in several spa hotels in Europe, but I’ve never been to an Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa anywhere in the world before. This was a completely new experience for me. This ancient luxury Balinese home was definitely not just another spa hotel. Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa is a traditional healing environment where the staff want to support, nurture and gently assist you to achieve your health and wellness goals. I feel lucky and privileged that I have had this experience, and happy to share it on The Viennese Girl travel/photography blog, so that you will also get to know about it.

We spent 4 relaxing days at Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa, one of the most exclusive boutique health and wellness retreats in the world. During our stay, we spent most of the time in the hotel because the lovely team gave us a personalised daily programme (Panchakarma programme) that combined Ayurvedic treatments, yoga and meditation that balances the mind, body and soul.

We only stepped out from the hotel for a bike ride to Pererenan Beach, an early morning walk through the village and the rice fields of the area, and a visit to Bali’s famous Tanah Lot temple. All these activities were organised by the hotel and were not obbligatory.

Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa

What I miss most from Sukhavati Retreat and Spa:

The views of the lush surroundings from our own private villa called Chintanami. I miss being surrended by the tropical jungle.

The 90 minute massage treatments. They lasted long and their hands were doing magic.

The presence of frangipani and orchids literally everywhere in the hotel.

Listening to the sounds of nature while being pampered with divine spa treatments.

Last but not least, the lovely team of Sukhavati Retreat and Spa.

The Viennese Girl travel/photography blog

We loved Sukhavati Ayurvedic Retreat and Spa and we can highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a retreat where you can restore your wellness physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Our stay at this hotel was for us the authentic, transformational Balinese experience that we expected to have from our trip to Bali.

The Viennese Girl travel/photography blog

At this point, I would also like to thank Eva Air (on Instagram) for making my dream true and flew me to Bali. It was a long flight from Vienna to Bali, but at the same time, safe and fun (because of the Hello Kitty theme)
